Houndstongue Control Video

On May 20, 2005, Jeffrey Pettingill, Bonneville County Weed Superintendent and Roger Batt, Coordinator of the Idaho Weed Awareness Campaign are investigating a patch of Houndstongue rosettes and last years seeds in an area east of Idaho Falls in eastern Idaho. Jeffrey explains that control is not that hard with this weed. A shovel will work, but before digging, make sure it is not the native plant, Arrowleaf Balsamroot, which looks similar in the early stages. If there are just a few Houndstongue rosettes, then get a couple inches under the ground and dig it up. If it is a huge problem, it would be best to contact your local county weed superintendent. Prescription treat it with a selective herbicide to make sure the desirable grasses are left around the plant.
