At the panorama site Bryan Dallolio prepares to dig up a Scotch Thistle weed and notes that it is important to make sure that you cut out the root crown. He demonstrates how to start digging a couple of inches away from the plant. After digging a few places he uses the shovel to cut the plant near the bottom and then digs again deeper to remove the root stalk. He explains that you want to make sure to get the majority of the root. He holds the root stalk up for inspection and explains that this is pretty much as deep as the root goes. It is quite shallow rooted for such a big plant.
