Roger Batt notes that he sees a lot of cheatgrass out here and asks Rory Clinton what this represents as far as a fire threat and the spread of the noxious weed, Diffuse Knapweed. Rory explains that cheatgrass, in its young growth is good palatable feed for cattle, but once it gets past the adult stage it becomes tougher and all of a sudden it becomes a fire fuel. He notes that approximately 5 years ago there was a pretty good fire that came through here. They were pretty excited thinking that it might have slowed the Knapweed down, but unfortunately what happened is that the cheatgrass was gone and the knapweed came back even stronger because the competition was gone. Rory concludes that fire is not the answer to the weed problem out here.
