Roger Batt notes that the Dalmation Toadflax "sort of looks like horsetail, in a way." Bryan Dallolio explains that the weed is easy enough to identify by the waxy feel of the leaves. It is not quite sticky but it is not smooth. It has a very distinctive color and the best time to identify it is when it is in flower. It can be seen for miles away on a hillside. He says "it is an attractive noxious weed." Roger agrees that it is very beautiful. He also asks Bryan how a person can tell the difference between this and Yellow Toadflax? Bryan explains that the shape of the leaves is the easiest way to distinguish between the two. Dalmation Toadflax has a vaguely clasping leaf that is fairly triangular in shape, especially near the top. Yellow Toadflax, on the other hand has a long narrow finger like leaf that is visibly not wider at the middle and is straight.
